EDUCATION

Early Childhood Education and K12 Teaching

Pathway Lead: Dr. Robert Marx, robert.marx@sjsu.edu

The San José subregion will establish a clear, effective pathway for K-16 students interested in pursuing careers in education fields: early childhood and PK-12 teaching, school counseling, school and district administration, social work, nonprofit leadership, and community organizing.

HEALTH

Public Health, Mental Health, and Wellness

Pathway Lead: Dr. Marcella McCollum, marcella.mccollum@sjsu.edu

The San José subregion will establish a pathway for K-16 students interested in pursuing careers in healthcare related fields. These careers include but are not limited to: nursing, mental health counseling and social work, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech language therapy, and nutrition science.

TECHNOLOGY

 Engineering and Computing

The San José subregion will establish a pathway for K-16 students interested in pursuing careers in computer science and engineering related fields. Degree options in this pathway include but are not limited to: data science, computer science, computer engineering, systems engineering, and data analytics.

We envision that San José’s diverse learners will have the educational experiences, career preparation, and support needed to contribute to, benefit from, lead, and thrive in our vibrant communities and globally competitive industries. Our regional partners are committed to building high-quality and high-demand education-to-career pathways that dismantle systemic barriers and increase access in three discipline pathways - Education, Health and Technology. 

TO ACHIEVE OUR VISION, WE WILL:

  • Develop articulated course pathways 

  • Expand dual enrollment offerings 

  • Increase the capacity of high school teachers to teach dual enrollment courses 

  • Provide pathway-specific outreach, recruitment, and advising 

  • Elevate peer mentoring ecosystems

  • Establish a family ambassador program 

  • Expand industry partnerships

  • Admission Pathways

    • The Spartan East Side Promise (SESP) is San Jose State University's dedicated support service for East Side Union High School District students from the time of college exploration through college graduation.

    • Transfer Success Pathway (TSP) is a program that provides a dual admission opportunity for eligible first-time, first-year students enrolling in California Community Colleges who commit to transferring to a California State University (CSU) within three years.

We invite industry partners to explore the many opportunities that interest your organization, ranging from light-lift activities such as hosting worksite visits and guest speaking to deeper engagement such as internships and apprenticeship.
